He attaches a letter from an Englishman who was a personal friend of Coventry Patmore. Miller had suggested to him to meet with Markham to introduce Patmore's works to Americans. He asks if a meeting can be arranged. Written on Funk and Wagnalls letterhead.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899).
